Your fire protection system including the installed fire sprinklers, fire alarms, fire suppression systems and even your portable fire extinguishers will all require regular scheduled tests and inspections according to NFPA standards and codes. This helps to ensure that all fire extinguishers will operate in an emergency situation and are ready for use. Commercial and industrial fire extinguishers may also be required by state, city and municipal health, building and fire codes to have all installed fire extinguishers tested and inspected by local fire departments, state licensed fire extinguisher companies, certified fire extinguisher technicians and/or fire safety engineers.

New York City 6 Year Fire Extinguisher Tests and Inspections : 6 Year Tear-Downs

Every 6 years stored-pressure fire extinguishers that require hydrostatic tests shall be discharged and refilled and/or recharged. All seals, hoses, valves, gauges shall be checked, tested and inspected. Fire extinguishers tests and inspections will include visual, physical and mechanical tests and inspections of all installed fire extinguishers, wheeled fire extinguishers and portable fire extinguishers.
